Glitcher forgot his cure for amnesia....

'Eyyyyyy! First of all, I want to say a big thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday! It seems I get more blessings every year. My parents also send me a birthday card in the mail, but I think the £10 note must have fallen out during delivery. Boooo!

Seriously though, I had a fun outing. I went to go see Inside Out at the cinema. Yeah, I know it's been out Stateside for a month, but it just came out last week here in Europe. I've been dying to see this film, and I watched it with a flatmate who also happens to study psychology. Overall, I absolutely loved it! It exceeded my expectations and is the best Pixar film I've seen since WALL-E. It's so refreshing to watch an animated film these days that doesn't assault you with poop jokes, wild takes and infantile nonsense. Director Pete Docter came up with a great concept of exploring a child's mind and fleshed it out with a fascinating story.

Riley is a loveable character. She displays such poignant expressions that depict the broad range of emotions she experiences. I've moved house several times as a kid, so I can relate to hard it can be on you. It's touching to see how deeply it affects Riley during her first day at school. Of course, Joy tries to keep Riley perpetually upbeat while marginalizing Sadness. I was wondering how Sadness would be treated as a negative emotion, but she fulfills an important role in Riley's life. In the meantime, the other emotions - Anger, Fear and Disgust - all take turns controlling Riley to comical but sympathetic effect.

The story is just bursting with creativity at every corner. Dream Productions is a standout example of the surreal nature of dreams, and other psychological aspects like the subconscious, imagination, and train of thought are given physical manifestations in Riley's mind. But for me, the best scene had to be the abstract vault. This was one of the most stunning things I've seen in a Pixar film, both conceptually and visually. It's an inventive way of portraying how abstractions take form, although I think the meaning behind the imagery might be too deep for kids to grasp. It just goes to show Pixar can deliver scenes that adults can appreciate.

I really look forward to a home release of Inside Out. Heck, with Riley reaching puberty, I would be keen to see what Pixar can do with a sequel. Give me more, please!
